AJC DERBY THE MOST PREDICTABLE EVER
by Garry Robinson
If form is to be believed, then this year's AJC Derby is one of the most predictable on record. The main players, Carnegie Express, Don Eduardo and Pentastic should finish 1,2,3 again in a repeat of their last performance. The only variables are a better barrier draw for Don Eduardo and a far worse one for Carnegie Express. In fact the difference is 12 with Don Eduardo in 7 and Carnegie Express out 5.
Unfortunately, because of the way Derby's are generally run, this barrier difference may be negated by the possible slow pace. Of course, there is one horse that is capable of a tearaway performance and that is Another Warrior which won by panels of fencing in two enormous wins in Brisbane last preparation but you would think that this sort of tactic would play right into the hands of Jim Cassidy, Damien Oliver and Brett Prebble.
No, this Derby is going to be a game of cat and mouse with none of these top class riders giving an inch to their rivals.
What is predictable is that the three horses mentioned will provide the trifecta and throw in Prince Of War and Another Warrior for fourth place and the First Four is yours.
