ADELAIDE AND BRISBANE CARNIVALS GET UNDERWAY

As we move into the final month of the Autumn season, both Queensland and South Australia's Carnivals have begun. Over the next few weeks we will see the South Australian Oaks and Derby, the Adelaide Cup (always a good guide to the Melbourne Cup). And in Brisbane, their Oaks and Derby, the Doomben 10,000 and the Doomben Cup followed by the Stradbroke and Brisbane Cup.

In the past few years, both venues have thrown up many Spring propects including Caulfield and Melbourne Cups. Think Sub Zero, Artic Scent and more recently Ethereal.

Whatever you do, do not discount the interstate form.

All the major stables will be represented at both venues, John Hawkes, the Freedamns, Gai Waterhouse. They will all be there in force and in the past I have found this time of the year to be more productive than the bigger Autumn Carnivals in Victoria and NSW. Are the winners easier to be found? I don't think so, but when they are found they win easily. Last year's shock defeat of Shogun Lodge was no surprise to us as we were on the winner King Keitel at lucrative odds.

It is a lesson. Do not be overawed by the Interstate stars as there will be plenty of winners from NZ and the locals.

One thing you can be sure of is that Winform, with our blend of time and weights based handicapping, will be amongst the winners as we have been in the past.
